Sun Run Day 6- At the Kansas City Automotive Museum

Though the solar car loves the sun, it seems rain loves the solar car, following it around wherever we go. This morning was no different, marked by a light splattering of rain that soon got bigger and bigger,

Certainly, with the ubiquitous gray sky, the past couple of days have started blending together, making it hard to remember defining features for each day, That being the case, it is hard to imagine that today is the halfway point in our drive across the United States.

Not only so, but today was also markedly different than other days, with no driving taking place and instead an event at the Kansas City Automobile Museum.

The lackluster day was no predictor for our time at the museum, which can only be summed up as amazing. It was an honor to see the museum, having our car displayed outside, while in the building sat an extensive collection of cars with everything from a vintage amphibious military vehicle to a 1912 Ford Model T Commercial Roadster. Not only so, but we also got to meet many people who were interested in the solar car and even talked to a group of high school students who built their own car.

Everyone was happy to be at the museum with quite a few on the team walking away with bags of cool car memorabilia from a sale the museum was holding. Lunch was also quite special as it was Kansas City barbecue from a place the curator at the museum suggested, leaving everyone with full stomachs and happy minds.

The sun also came out, helping us end the day with an almost full battery. We restocked our food supplies and our team advisor and I, did the team laundry, racking up quite a hefty bill of close to $100. Despite that, it was a relief to get all that done. The solar car was set to start tomorrow with hopefully no rain, we have sustenance for the long days ahead, and, of course, people have much-needed clean clothes.

With that, the team will soon be on its way to Albuquerque, getting farther and farther away from our home state of Michigan, but closer and closer to our destination; and with people like our friends at the Kansas City Automobile Museum, this journey will bring us new friends, new perspectives, and an unforgettable experience.
