Sun Run Day 5- Onward to Kansas City

Unfortunately, this morning began with a light drizzling of rain, wetting the roads. Helping us combat the rain, was the hot and freshly brewed coffee we had for the first time this morning, a luxury we never imagined would be afforded before.

Despite the rain, the road conditions were not too bad, so Aevum still hit the road, braving the rain carefully at a slower speed than usual. At first, the conditions seem to get worse, the rain getting heavier and the clouds thickening until they covered the sky in a gray blanket and fog appeared around us.

After a few hours of driving, crossing from Illinois to Missouri, the conditions finally got better and we were able to see a sliver of blue sky.

That blue sky really did lift my mood and even made the sandwiches, of which I had been eating the same variety for the past four days, taste so much better. It is really true like our Engineering Director Terry says that “the sun makes me happy”. It makes everyone feel better about what they’re doing (we are a solar car team after all) and the fate of the solar car.

As today turned out, the solar car was in really good condition. Other than a detached fender, everything else was in pristine conditions, allowing us to drive around 390 miles from Illinois to Missouri.

We will be going off the Michigan Sun Run route to the Kansas City Automotive Museum tomorrow to display our car there and we’ll resume our route afterward.
