This is the start of an unforgettable summer

Good morning,

The team’s workspace has officially been taken over by our 2022 Race Crew!

While the rain has been keeping us indoors, we have been hard at work manufacturing Aevum and planning some really special events. This summer will be a historical milestone for the team, and we are excited to share this moment with you in our upcoming bi-weekly newsletters.

Now, it is time to address everyone’s burning question: what is the University of Michigan Solar Car Team doing this summer?

Included in this newsletter:

- Invitation to the Aevum Unveil Event

- Introduction to the Michigan Sun Run

Celebrate Aevum’s completion with us

On June 10th, you are invited to celebrate the completion of our 16th solar car Aevum with us! At our Unveil Event, Aevum will make its first public appearance alongside our 2022 Race Crew. We will also hear from select speakers about their experiences with the team and the future of solar racing at the University of Michigan. This is a must-watch event for team supporters, solar car fans, and the general public.

The event will start at 7:30pm ET, and information on the live stream will be shared on our website and social media as the date approaches. We hope you can join us virtually!

Michigan Sun Run

Here comes the sun

The Michigan Sun Run is solar racing’s newest challenge. This 3,000 mile-long endurance race across the country follows the course of the sun from East to West. Starting in New York City, the University of Michigan Solar Car Team will race a solar car across the country to reach the finish line in Los Angeles. The country’s vast geography will push the boundaries of sustainable technology and our capabilities as a solar racing team. This cross-country race is the longest route we have ever raced on, and its outcome will inform our approach to the design and manufacture of our future cars.

For more information on the race, visit the Michigan Sun Run website page where the latest news and updates will be posted.

Going Up North for the summer

Construction season is currently underway in Michigan, and we’ve accepted the challenge of avoiding all the pothole-littered roads for our mock race in July. In the past week, our strategy division planned a route throughout the entire state of Michigan and personally drove Up North to survey the roads! This mock race will simulate racing conditions from the World Solar Challenge and prepare us for the Michigan Sun Run.
