Sun Run Day 2- Driving Through Pennsylvania
This morning was an early start as usual, with array crew getting up at 5:00am to point the solar array. The rest of the crew slept in, getting up at 7:00am, well after the sun rise. Most of the team were decently rested, staying warm and dry inside the tents and only leaving an unfortunate few who were left a bit wet due to sleeping position in tents.
Soon breakfast was served and we were off onto the road with Aevum for day 2 of the Michigan Sun Run. The whole team was keen about making up the thirty minutes of lost time we had yesterday, so the solar car drove at full speed while in the bounds of legality, trying to make it to our first control point. The car mostly breezed through the hills, only struggling on some particularly deep slopes, but eventually coming through.
However, during our way to the second control stop, trouble came. Driving through the shaded roads framed by trees, Victor the driver of the solar car at the time, heard a pop. In observance of safety, we pulled out onto a spacious driveway to check out the solar car. After quite some time, we found the problem and fixed it before continuing on our way. It should’ve been the last of our troubles, but it wasn’t. Instead, another problem appeared with the car after a bit more driving, forcing us to halt for the day.
On the bright side, we decided to stay in a hotel due to a severe thunderstorm warning and we fixed the car before the rain clouds rolled in. Hopefully this will allow everyone to be well rested and ready for a new day of adventure tomorrow.
