Mechanical

The mechanical division is responsible for everything that makes our car a car. You will learn to use CAD and simulation software to develop models that allow us to design and optimize our suspension, steering, chassis, and more. You will also implement commercial and experimental components and materials that allow us to create innovative solar cars and gain a leg up on our competition.

As for workflow, the first months will primarily be focused on working with the aerodynamics, strategy, and electrical divisions to establish design spaces. Later, you will use generative design and finite element analysis to create topologically optimized parts, while working with other divisions as well as other projects within the mechanical division to perform systems-level integration. Finally, you will ensure that your designs are manufacturable and serviceable.

As a member of Race Crew, you will be responsible for the fabrication, implementation, and validation of our car’s mechanical systems. This primarily involves composites and metals manufacturing, as well as general mechanic skill. On race, you will monitor and maintain the mechanical systems for safety and performance.
